Venice Stripped Of 2006 Football Championship:

Venice High has been stripped of its 2006 Western League football championship for using an ineligible player but the Gondoliers appear determined to win the 2007 title.

Hamilton High was declared the 2006 champion in a LA City Schools ruling. Then Venice defeated Hamilton, 17-13, on Friday, October 19 and followed up with a 41-0 home win over University on Friday, October 26.

Senior Quarterback Richard Ragland didn’t play against Hamilton due to a shoulder injury but returned against University, when Venice built a 20-0 halftime lead.

The player in question was a senior last season. He had arrived at Venice as a transfer student.
