Boys Westside Basketball Roundup:

With three starters from last year’s 21-6 team now in college, the Santa Monica High boys’ basketball team has gotten off to a slow start.

Coach James Hecht believes the team will improve with experience, but the Vikings lost three of their first five games.

With Kevin Jackson going to Crossroads, Mark Smith has become the boys coach at New Roads. The Jaguars lost their first two games to Webb of Claremont, 52-48, and Upland Christian, 60-46.

Palisades absorbed a 62-36 loss to Campbell-Hall, one of the top teams in the state, but came back with three wins in the Beverly Hills Tournament. Palisades defeated Antelope Valley, 65-31, and then easily defeated West Adams and Canoga Park, led by returning all-city guard Aaron Hawk-Harris.
