The Santa Monica High boys’ basketball team has been rewarded for winning the Ocean League championship by getting a home CIF Division 1-A playoff game Friday night, February 15.
The Vikings will host Ramona of Riverside, the third place team from the Ivy League, at 7:30 p.m. and a large turnout is expected.
“We’ve had large, supportive crowds this season and that has really helped us,” said Coach James Hecht.
The Vikings are seeded 11th in the division, the second highest in the CIF. Samohi lost a first round game to Woodbridge of Irvine last season. Two years ago Samohi was in 1-A, the top division, and reached the semi-finals.
The Crossroads girls, who won the Delphic League, were given the No. 1 seed in Division 5-A. The Roadrunners will have a first round bye and will have a home game Saturday night, February 16 against Noli Indian.
If Crossroads wins it will play again in the quarterfinals Wednesday, February 20 at a site to be determined.
Last season Crossroads reached the semi-finals before losing.
The Santa Monica High girls will be home Saturday night against Redlands East Valley.
In other playoff games involving Westside teams, the St. Monica boys were scheduled Wednesday night, February 13 at Hillcrest Christian of Granada Hills the same night the Crossroads boys will play at Century High of Santa Ana.
On Thursday, February 14 the St. Monica girls are scheduled at Windward, and on Friday the Brentwood boys will play at La Cañada.
