Turning Point Honors Rosen:

Laurel Rosen (center) was honored Sunday for her volunteerism with the Generous Spirit Award Recognizing Unparalleled Generosity by Turning Point. She is pictured with the co-chairs of the event, Jennifer Hutchinson (left) and Rosalind Napoli (right). The Brilliant Star Award was given to the Steaven Jones Development Company who have been hiring OPCC clients for several years. The luncheon was held at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.

Established in 1983, Turning Point Transitional Housing is a 55-bed shelter for homeless men and women that offers housing and supportive services for up to 9 months. The project seeks to break the cycle of homelessness and to integrate homeless individuals back into the community by providing comprehensive, individualized services designed to address their physical and emotional needs. Turning Point is a project of OPCC (formerly Ocean Park Community Center).

About 10 years ago, there was a small wave of hype for an electric scooter called the Segway. However, hype quickly died down when people realized they looked ridiculous on it, to the point of movies like “Paul Blart, Mall Cop” satirized the vehicle altogether. At a glance, it seems like history is to repeat itself, with this new vehicle called the URB-E, standing for “urban electric.” However, that is not so much the case here as it was 10 years ago.
