Malibu Arts Festival

Actually located outside the Civic Center, the Malibu Arts Festival, now in its 37th year, offers exhibits of fine art, with entertainment by local musicians, a children’s area, and a garden café with refreshments. This year’s featured artist is Wesley Van Dyke who paints in oils and acrylic, and who will be accompanied by his famous grandfather, Dick Van Dyke. And new this year will be the Malibu Music Awards, featuring a songwriting contest to find the best new song about Malibu.

Twilight Dance Series, July 31, 7pm, free, Santa Monica PierMichelle Shocked is a familiar name to followers of the modern folk and singer-songwriter genres. She’s a ruggedly independent spirit who has stood up for the rights of recording artists to control their creations, while her songs have also dealt with social justice. Mike Farris is the former frontman of the Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies and has a new album, Salvation In Lights, recorded in Nashville. Get ready for an evening of “Sanctified Americana.”
