St. Monica’s football team was often overpowered last season but the Mariners have begun the 2008 season losing two close games.
After dropping its opener to Mary Star, St. Monica absorbed a 14-7 loss to Animo of Inglewood on Saturday, September 20 at Harbor College.
“We played better but made costly mistakes,” said Coach Sean Ritter. “It was a game we could have won.”
Animo scored both of its touchdowns within10 seconds in the second quarter. After scoring the first one it recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and scored on the next play.
St. Monica’s only touchdown came on the first play of the fourth quarter on a one-yard quarterback sneak by Joe Giesregen.St. Monica threw four interceptions.
