Brentwood Bounces Back With Win:

Brentwood’s football team came back from its only loss of the season with a 28-14 victory over Pasadena Poly Saturday, October 4.

The non-league game was played at Brentwood.

The Eagles’ brightest stars were Josh Amster and Charlie James, as usual. But they had plenty of help.

Tailbacks Alex Kelln and Matt Greenberg combined for 80 rushing yards, their most significant contribution of the season. Coach Patrick Brown praised the offensive line for opening holes and the defense for being far more aggressive than a week earlier in a loss to St. Bernard.

“The defensive players were swarming to the ball,” said Brown. “Our defensive coaches did a good job of preparing them with some new drills.

“And every time Pasadena Poly scored we answered with a score. That’s something coaches love.”

The game’s first touchdown came on Brentwood’s 60-yard drive capped by Amster’s eight-yard pass to James. After Pasadena Poly tied the score James made a 34-yard field goal.

In the third quarter Amster’s 28-yard run made it 17-7. Following an exchange of field goals Amster scored on a 30-yard run and threw a two-point conversion pass to James.

Brown said the elimination of turnovers remains a goal. But the Eagles had just two as compared to four against St. Bernard.

Brentwood, which has a 3-1 record, will have another non-league game Friday night, October 10 at Salesian. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
