The installation of FieldTurf at Corsair Field this season has been recognized as a success, and now nearby John Adams Middle School has installed the same surface for its athletic fields. In addition, the John Adams athletic fields now have new lights, just like Corsair Field.
Youth soccer teams were the first to play on the fields on November 1 and 2, and middle school students followed on November 3.
The funding came from Measure S, the 2002 Santa Monica College bond measure. The venture came about through co-operation among SMC, John Adams, and the City of Santa Monica.
The John Adams athletic complex now consists of three fields: one for soccer, another that can be used for soccer or football, and one for softball.
In addition, the Santa Monica College softball team will play its home games at John Adams starting next season. The SMC women’s soccer team, which previously played at John Adams, moved to Corsair Field this season.
