Hundreds of people gathered from all over Southern California Wednesday April 15, at the Santa Monica Pier for a modern day Tea Party, inspired by the 1773 Boston Tea Party rebellion against British colonial taxes. Though many did not question their sincerity, others were concerned about who really stirred the tea party. At approximately 4 p.m. Santa Monica Police estimated that there was a crowd of roughly 500 people gathering at the pier; the tea party was scheduled from 3-7 p.m. There were tea parties in every state across the nation in various cities protesting taxes.
