Samohi Scholarship Softball Players Eye Big Senior Season:

Last week four Santa Monica High softball players revealed their destinations to play at Division 1 colleges.

Before departing, they intend to lead Coach Debbie Skaggs’ Vikings through one more outstanding year.

Shortstop Kaile Nakao will go to Hawaii, catcher Emma Woo to Tennessee Tech, outfielder Hayley Condon to San Jose State and pitcher Celisha Walker to New Mexico State.

The Vikings have won four straight Ocean League championships and gone several rounds in the CIF playoffs to be one of the most successful athletic programs at the school.

However the group hasn’t won a CIF championship, and Skaggs says a CIF title this season would be the group’s perfect ending.

Last season Samohi had a 24-7 record and lost in the third playoff round to Paloma Valley, 5-0.

Walker made the all-CIF second team last season and was named Most Outstanding Player in the Ocean League.

Woo made first team all-CIF and Nakao was first team all-Ocean League.

A couple of other squad members are likely to play in college, but their destinations haven’t been finalized. The Vikings’ season will begin in February.
