Rachel Rosenthal has been a major performance artist going back to the 1950s (she’s mentioned in Anais Nin’s diary!) and she has been the inspiration for several generations of artists, especially in Los Angeles. In her honor, this birthday bash (her 83rd), will feature a silent auction of works by well-known artists, a book publication party, performances, and of course, a cake.

What’s a rain barrel? For all those urbanites who only knew about rain barrels from children’s songs, this event presented by the City of Santa Monica’s Office of Sustainability & the Environment, features products (rain barrels and cisterns) that help to harvest rain water, a sustainable solution indeed in this dry climate. Local experts will be available for consultation.
