The Santa Monica High boys and girls basketball teams came through with important Ocean League wins over Inglewood High Friday night.
In a doubleheader in the Samohi gym the girls avenged an earlier loss to Inglewood, 59-51 and the boys followed with a 67-58 victory.
Both Samohi teams also won at Morningside Wednesday. The girls now have an 11-4 record. The boys, who lost three of their first four games, are 11-5.
At Morningside the Samohi girls won, 62-24 and the boys won, 69-56.
On Friday the Samohi girls became 2-0 in league play in a game that was close throughout. Samohi’s earlier loss to Inglewood came in a tournament game and does not count in the league standings.
Although the Samohi boys don’t have a starter over 6-foot-2 the team is regarded as one of the best shooting clubs Coach James Hecht has had in his 16 years as the Vikings’ coach.
In another league game Friday night the Culver City boys edged Morningside, 59-57.
Next week the Samohi boys will play a non-league game Monday against Etiwanda, and then will have two league games — home Wednesday against Beverly Hills and Friday at Culver City.
