Samohi Soccer Teams Near Playoffs:

The arrival of February marks the conclusion of the CIF soccer regular season for the boys and girls squads and both are well positioned to earn playoff berths. The boys team, coached by Serafin Rodriguez, is 10-4-3 overall and is 5-0-1 in Ocean League play, the lone league tie coming last Friday at John Adams Middle School against a scrappy squad from Morningside. The Viking boys play rival Beverly Hills this week, and close against Culver City at an away game on February 9. The boys are looking to regain their form of two years ago, an extraordinary season when the won the CIF Championship for the entire southern half of the state, and ended up ranked second among all high school teams in the nation.

The Lady Vikings are also undefeated in Ocean League play with a 4-0-1 record, the lone league tie against Beverly Hills who they will face again with a home game at John Adams Middle School on February 5. The squad’s overall record is 7-6-3. Coach Jimmy Chapman notes that the team has had more than its share of injuries this season which has affected the starting roster, but not the team’s determination to win. CIF playoffs commence in mid-February.
