Although Sunday, June 27 is almost a week after the real Summer Solstice (first day of summer), here in Santa Monica the Summer SOULstice is celebrated at the end of June, with a daylong festival on Main Street.
Sponsored by the Main Street Business Improvement Association, Edgemar, and O’Brien’s Pub and Restaurant, the 10th Annual Summer SOULstice celebration features a sidewalk sale (running both Saturday June 26 and Sunday June 27 from 11 a.m to 7 p.m.) with local retail businesses showcasing sale items on the sidewalk and offering specials and possibly free snack items. A favorite snack is the pizza served up in slices at Wildflour Pizza.
There are 21 music acts that will be performing on six stages set up in parking lots, courtyards, and side streets. This year’s lineup features local contemporary acts like reggae veterans The Bonedaddies, Americana band Matt Owens and The Golden West, and perennial local faves The Paul Chesne Band. For fans of the classics (in rock that is) tribute bands include Stone Soul (Motown and r & b), Highway 61 Revisited (Bob Dylan), The Neil Deal (Neil Young), and Dr. Wu (Steely Dan).
Main Street Summer SOULstice Festival is free. For more information call 310.899.9555 or go to
