The final concert of the 2010 season of the Twilight Dance Series will be happening this Thursday evening, September 2, at 7:30 p.m. Headlining is Dr. John and the Lower 911.
Dr. John (aka Mac Rebennak) has been making New Orleans music since the late 1960s, when he debuted with an album called “Dr John the Night Tripper,” which offered songs crafted, in some cases, from traditional voodoo chants. Dr. John’s blend of r and b, funk, blues, rock, and “voodoo music” has found an avid audience over the years. He calls the mix “gumbo” after the equally diverse New Orleans dish.
Opening for Dr. John will be Eddie Baytos and the Nervis Brothers. Baytos is said to be “from N’Wawlins via Hollywood.” A versatile musician who plays several instruments including a washboard, Baytos is also a choreographer, composer, and producer. With the Nervis Brothers, he is set to bring “World Mardi Gras Music” to the Santa Monica Pier.
