Natalie Adame didn’t last very long as the new Santa Monica High School softball coach.
Two weeks after her hiring was announced, Samohi Athletic Director Daniel Escalera informed the Mirror on Oct. 1 that Adame, who played softball at UC Santa Barbara and more recently coached at Los Angeles-area institutions, was no longer coach.
Marybell Moreno would take over the team, he said, adding that Morena was an assistant under longtime coach Debbie Skaggs, who retired in the spring following Samohi’s run to the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 championship.
It wasn’t immediately known what influence, if any, Skaggs had in Moreno’s hiring. Moreno wasn’t immediately available.
Escalera previously told the Mirror that the search committee – which included Samohi principal Hugo Pedroza and himself – offered the job to Adame after reviewing applications from about a dozen individuals.
