Lady Vikings Lose to Bolingbrook in Nike Tournament:

Although Mariah Faulk netted 19 points and Kristina Johnson poured in another 15, Santa Monica High School girls basketball team lost to Bolingbrook of Illinois 59-48 on Dec. 18 at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz.

The loss is the Lady Vikings’ first on the season and it comes against a team ranked No. 2 in the nation by Maxpreps.com. Bollingbrook’s Morgan Tucker, who will play at the University of Connecticut next season, had 15 points and the team’s Tennessee-bound point guard Ariel Massengale also added 15.

The Lady Vikings trailed by two points at the end of the third quarter and struggled from the free throw line, making 4 of 16 attempts, said Samohi Lady Vikings head coach Marty Verdugo.

The Nike Tournament of Champions continues throughout the week.
