On Friday, Jan. 14, at 4:21 p.m. officers went to the Rite-Aid store located at 2400 Pico Boulevard to investigate a theft report. When they arrived, one of the victims, an employee of Rite-Aid, informed them that the suspect had entered the store and put some diapers in a bag. A loss prevention agent had requested that this suspect remove the diapers and leave the store, but the suspect left the store with the diapers.
The victim had later walked to a nearby bus stop and saw the suspect sitting on a bench at the bus stop. The suspect then said to the victim, “I should slap the [excrement] out of you, and blow your [expletive] brains out.” The victim then returned to the store and narrated this exclamation by the suspect to the loss prevention agent. The loss prevention agent went to the bus stop and confronted the suspect, at which point the suspect threw the diapers at the loss prevention agent. The suspect then boarded a bus and left the location.
Officers picked up the scent, and located the suspect a short distance away. This 52-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested and charged with making criminal threats. His bail was set at $50,000.
