Santa Monica High School’s varsity baseball team suffered yet another painful defeat on Saturday, March 19, losing 14-3 to the Torrance Tartars. Senior pitcher Anthony Konders for the Tartars pitched four innings holding the Vikings to just one run on two hits.
The Vikings did manage to score another two runs on two more hits in the fifth and sixth innings, but the game by then was already too far gone to make much of a difference.
Senior shortstop Trent Gilbert had the big bat against the Vikings, going three for four, scoring three runs and slugging four RBI’s. The Tartars managed 18 hits – six of which were for extra bases.
It has been a tough year for the Vikings, losing their first eight games, but they remain confident that they can turn it around. They will try to start to do just that when they play this Thursday, March 19, 3 p.m. at South Torrance High against the Spartans.
