INGLEWOOD – It was fitting that the only thing standing in the way of the Samohi Lady Vikings win of the Ocean League was a Monarch.
But these Monarchs of Morningside have been unsuccessful in war all season, and Samohi sacked them once and for all on Tuesday.
This might not be as cliche as “It was over before it started,” but regardless, it tells the tale of the 23-0 conquest (13-0 after the bottom of the first inning) the Vikings carried out.
Samohi scored 23 runs on 18 hits and used the Monarchs’ eight errors against them, scoring on six of them. Six Lady Vikes hit multiple times, with Natalie Abel and Meghan Bradley both going three for four.
Abel pitched the five-inning shutout and Jamie Horn went two for three with four RBI.
Ocean League champion Samohi will close the regular season against the league No. 3 Culver City on Thursday.
