On Friday, August 19, at 1:40 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to Rick’s Tavern, located at 2907 Main Street, in order to investigate a case of a woman who was refusing to pay her bill. When they arrived at the scene, the officers spoke with an employee of Rick’s tavern who told them the woman had consumed a meal (of an undisclosed kind) as well as some alcoholic beverages.
When she was presented with the bill she simply refused to pay it, and then attempted to leave. When confronted by a staff member she began yelling, and started to knock over some chairs. The officers discovered that this woman was on probation for burglary, and did not have any money with which to pay the bill for the consumables that she had enjoyed at Rick’s Tavern. This 62-year-old resident of North Beach, California, was placed under a private person’s arrest and the officers took her to jail. She was charged with defrauding an innkeeper, as well as a probation violation. Her bail was set at $10,000.
