Day 3: Santa Monica’s Good Food Festival To Feature Trade Show, VIP Gala: Day 3 of 5 Highlights of the Good Food Festival and Conference

Day three of Santa Monica’s first-ever Good Food Festival and Conference is full of delights, included featured speakers at its trade day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a VIP gala this evening.

Among the featured speakers today at the Food Policy and Public Health Summit at Santa Monica College are the likes of Chipotle founder and CEO Steve Ells and California Endowment CEO Robert K. Ross who will speak about the future of food in the context of public health and policy.

The five-day Good Food Festival and Conference is in collaboration with the Santa Monica Farmers Market, which is commemorating its 30th year in existence in a big way.

The event still has plenty to come through Sunday. Still to come are a feature a series of events highlighting the freshest fares, enjoyable music, and numerous other festivities showcasing “locally and sustainably produced food and innovative leaders from the good food movement.”

One of the biggest highlights of this five-day event will be the Localicious Gala affair tonight Friday, Sept. 16, at the Annenberg Community Beach House, which will coincide with the Farmers Market’s 30th Anniversary celebration.

The Localicious Gala will take place on the sand by the Annenberg Community Beach House; featured at the event will be a pairing of 30 chefs and 30 market farmers in the name of creating signature dishes made from fresh fare.

Several people will be honored at the Localicious event, including Avery, long time market farmers Molly Gean and Alex Weiser, and Michael’s restaurant owner Michael McCarty.

Beyond Localicious, the Good Food Festival will also feature film screenings, an art exhibition, a speaker series, and cooking exhibitions.

One highlighted event is “chefs at Play,” which takes place at SaMoHi on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. At the event, several local farmers will be paired with chefs as part of a series of cooking demonstrations.
