Homeless Guitarist Arrested In Santa Monica Parking Structure For Loitering, Possessing Switchblade: APB: Mack The Knife

On Saturday, Oct. 29, at 9:40 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the parking structure located in the 1400 block of Fourth Street in response to a complaint about noise. When they arrived they saw a man wandering around inside the structure whilst simultaneously playing his guitar.

This act, no matter how musically proficient the individual performing it may be, is a violation of a Santa Monica Municipal Code. The officers detained the suspect, and upon discovering that this “minstrel” was bereft of any identification, arrested him.

They performed the obligatory search of the suspect, and discovered that he possessed a switchblade, another offense. This 20-year-old homeless man was charged with loitering in a parking structure, and possession of a switchblade knife. He then had to face bail to the tune of $500.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of The Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
