KCET To Honor Gary Oldman In Santa Monica On Saturday With Lumiere Award:

KCET will honor acclaimed actor Gary Oldman with a Lumiere Award, which recognizes excellence in artistry and innovation in television and motion pictures this Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.

The award will be presented by SoCal Connected host, Val Zavala at the KCET Cinema Series’ special screening of Tomas Alfredson’s adaptation of John le Carré’s, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Previous recipients of the Lumiere Award include: Ian McKellen (2003) and Dame Judi Dench (2005).

Host Pete Hammond will moderate a Q&A with Gary Oldman immediately following the screening.

Based on the classic novel of the same name from the premier spy novelist of his time, perhaps of all time, John le Carré, the international thriller is set at the height of the Cold War years of the mid-20th Century.

George Smiley (Gary Oldman), a disgraced British spy, is re-hired in secret by his government – which fears that the British Secret Intelligence Service, a.k.a. MI-6, has been compromised by a double agent working for the Soviets.

Tickets to the screening at 3 p.m. are $20. Advance reservations required, visit kcet.org or charge by telephone at 323.953.5800.

The Aero Theatre is located at 1328 Montana Ave., Santa Monica.
