On Saturday, July 7, at 12:15 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on patrol in the 2200 block of Main Street when they saw a man who was lying down across the west sidewalk and noticed that because of the position that this man had chosen to lie in, he was completely blocking the thoroughfare thus preventing the free, uninhibited movement of good citizen pedestrians, and forcing them to navigate an alternative route onto the street (dangerous), or to precariously step over the man’s body (also dangerous).
The officers awoke this man and discovered, not surprisingly, that the man was heavily intoxicated.
The officers deemed that this 47-year-old Santa Monica resident was not able to care for himself and so they arrested him.
He was later charged with public intoxication (647 (f) PC) and his bail was set at $250.
