Staged Reading Series: Dead Man’s Cell Phone. In the second in a new series of staged readings, Santa Monica Rep performs Sarah Ruhl’s 2007 satirical comedy, “Dead Man’s Cell Phone,” directed by Eric Bloom. The play follows a woman who inserts herself into the life of a man she’s never met by answering his cell phone after he dies next to her in a coffee house. Films4Cuban5 presents, “In the Wrong Body.” The film was produced in 2010 by Cuban award-winning filmmaker, Marilyn Solaya, The documentary is a moving portrayal of Mavi’s life. Exhibits In Santa Monica

United Cerebral Palsy Exhibit. United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) present Current Current, on display at the Santa Monica Pier Carousel through August 2. This group exhibition brings together works focused on the diverse movements of like. Whether with transitions of subtle colors or explosive bursts, the gestures within these works convey deep emotion and immense physicality. There are long, nomadic narratives and fast jabs of abstraction working together within these paintings to build actions and timelines, which draw us deep into their swirling energy. Malibu Artist Gay Summer Rick: Series in Sand and Sky. Bleicher Gallery presents a new show by Malibu artist Gay Summer Rick that opened June 23. “Plays In The Park” at the Santa Monica Playhouse. Written and directed by Brian Connors. Presented by George Schott. Last of the Knotts. The semi-autobiographical, solo show written and performed by poet/hipster Doug Knott and produced by Meadowbrook Entertainment, will be staged at Santa Monica Playhouse’s The Other Space Theatre with performances July 26, Aug. 30, and Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. Doug endures a childhood of severe abuse by his alcoholic father, a Florida judge obsessed with his own legacy. Cinema On The Street In Downtown Santa Monica. Downtown Santa Monica is proud to present “Cinema on the Street,” a series of weekly summertime movies on Third Street Promenade every Friday in July!
