Santa Monica police arrested a 22-year-old Venice resident on Aug. 16 after finding she had a bag full of stolen good and an active warrant for a past petty theft.
At 7 p.m. officers patrolling the 2400 block of Beverly Avenue noticed the woman on a skateboard.
Since they knew of this woman from a prior arrest, they pulled alongside and asked if they could have a chat with her, to which she replied in the affirmative.
The officers then noticed that this woman was carrying a brown purse and a blue nylon bag, so they asked her if she would mind if they took a look inside the bags, she looked at them and said, “absolutely.”
The officers looked inside the bag and found the following items: Six cell phones, an external hard drive, some items of clothing, some of which still had the store tags on them, mail belonging to other people, a California driver’s license, a credit card and a DMV registration card belonging to other people, and several other forms of ID that didn’t belong to her either.
The officers asked her how she had come about these items to which she replied that she “had found them.”
The officers were of course somewhat skeptical about her explanation so they ran a computer check on her and this resulted in the discovery that she had an active warrant for a past petty theft.
The officers, based upon the outstanding warrant, as well as the numerous suspicious items that the woman claimed to have “found,” arrested this 22-year-old Venice resident and she was charged with possession of stolen property and identity theft.
Her bail was set at $27,500.
