Seven Candidates Now Likely For SMMUSD School Board Election:

The race for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School School Board is likely to have seven candidates vying for the three open seats — those of Board President Ben Allen, member Jose Escarce, and member Maria Leon-Vasquez.

The L.A. County Registrar’s office has validated incumbents Escarce and Leon-Vazquez’s petitions of at least 100 registered Santa Monica/Malibu voters.

Five candidates have lodged their papers and are awaiting verification from the LA County’s Registrar’s office. They are incumbent Santa Monica resident Ben Allen, Santa Monica resident Greenich Chase, and a trio of Malibu residents: Karen Farrer, Seth Jacobson, and Craig Foster.

Jake Wachtel, who pulled papers on July 20, did not return his petition by today’s 5 p.m. deadline.

The election is on Nov. 6, 2012.
