Stay In Santa Monica This Carmageddon Weekend With Unique Deals, Specials:

Santa Monica businesses will offer unique deals and specials to help residents and visitors avoid congestion and traffic expected during the I-405 closure, popularly known as “Carmageddon II” this weekend, Sept. 29-30.

More than 40 Santa Monica businesses will be participating through ‘Buy Local Santa Monica,’ a campaign created by representatives of the Santa Monica business community and City of Santa Monica to support local businesses and raise awareness of the community, economic and environmental benefits of choosing local first.

“Carmageddon II is the perfect opportunity for us to remind everyone how much our local businesses have to offer,” said Jennifer Taylor, Founding Member and Chair of Buy Local Santa Monica. “From fresh Farmers Market produce to award-winning dining, trend setting fashion and unrivaled spa and fitness experiences; Santa Monica truly has everything you need!”

A leader in sustainable green practices, Santa Monica is a pedestrian and bike friendly city where many locals and visitors opt for alternative clean modes of transportation.

In an effort to encourage bike tourism, the City of Santa Monica, Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau (SMCVB) and Buy Local Santa Monica campaign created Santa Monica self-guided biket itineraries, according to different themes including arts, wellness, vintage shopping and sustainability.

“Seventy percent of Santa Monica hotel visitors never use a car while they are here,” said Misti Kerns, President/CEO of the Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Our beach, dining, shopping and attractions are all within walking and biking distance, making it very easy for residents and visitors to experience a car-free lifestyle year round. During Carmageddon II, there will be a ton of fun events and specials taking place in Santa Monica. We encourage residents to be a tourist in your own city and use our website as a resource for event listings and itinerary suggestions. ”
