A 21-year-old homeless man was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 29 for stealing a Sony HD/3D camera from a man in the crosswalk at Ocean and Colorado Avenue near the Santa Monica Pier.
At 3:04 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the area after they had received a theft report.
When they arrived the officers spoke with the victim, who told them he had been in the crosswalk when a man approached him, stole a camera that had been affixed to his belt and walked off.
The officers went in search of this alleged robber and found him in the 1500 block of Alley Number One, whereupon the officers detained him.
The victim identified the suspect, but the suspect did not have the Sony HD/3D camera, valued at $200, on his person (it must be assumed that he dumped it somewhere).
The officers arrested this man and he was charged with grand theft person and a probation violation.
The bail for this homeless man was set at $25,000.
