A 45-year-old woman was arrested Thursday, Dec. 6 after attempting to injure a police officer using a shopping cart at the Albertson’s grocery store at 3105 Wilshire Boulevard.
At 10:40 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the store after they had received a report of a woman who was yelling and screaming profanities and generally causing a scene inside the store.
When the officers arrived they discovered this woman sitting on a retaining wall next to the loading dock, so they spoke to her.
The officers informed the woman that she was trespassing, and advised her that it would be a good idea if she gathered her belongings and departed.
The woman responded by yelling more profanities at the officers.
The woman began to walk off with a shopping cart containing the possessions, while still yelling her favored profanities, but suddenly turned around and wheeled the shopping cart towards an officer in order to strike him in the knee.
The officer deftly pulled the shopping cart away, but the woman charged at the officer in an apparent attempt at an attack.
The officer immediately took the woman down to the ground, and then handcuffed her.
The officers then placed this woman in the back of the police vehicle where she decided to continue her apparent irregular behavior by kicking at the door of the police car.
The officers arrested this homeless woman and she was charged with stealing a shopping cart, battery upon a police officer, and resisting arrest.
Her bail was set at $20,000.
