A 19-year-old man was arrested Friday, Jan. 18 for attacking a man behind a Santa Monica parking structure.
At 2:30 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to parking structure number four, located at 1321 Second Street, after they had heard that a victim was following a suspect who had assaulted the victim a few days earlier.
When the officers arrived they spoke with the victim who told them that the same person who had punched him in the face the previous Tuesday had just assaulted him.
The victim told the officers that he had been walking in the alley behind the parking structure when this suspect had suddenly jumped out in front of him and spontaneously begun to punch and kick him.
There was no apparent reason given for this assault.
The suspect then stopped the attack and proceeded to walk into the restroom located in the parking structure.
The victim then called the police and reported the incident.
The officers waited for this suspect to exit the restroom and detained him as he did.
The victim identified this suspect for both the assaults, and the officers also obtained corroborative statements from a witness to the latest assault.
The officers arrested this homeless man and he was charged with assault on a person and battery upon a person.
Bail was set at $20,000.
