The month of March has been designated as “Women’s History Month” and International Women’s Day has been observed since in the early 1900’s, every year on March 8.
Around the world, thousands of events will be held to inspire and celebrate the achievements of women. This day gives us a moment to stop and think about how far we have come as women politically, socially, and locally.
To think, just under 100 years ago, women in Santa Monica couldn’t vote, drive, or wear pants (at least out of the house).
I’m proud to be a woman business owner in Santa Monica and I’m looking forward to March 8.
While activities and events will be held throughout the globe, I will come together with the women making a difference in our Santa Monica community.
The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, Santa Monica Commission on The Status of Women, and the Organization of Women Leaders will host an OWL networking breakfast at The Market at Santa Monica Place from 7:15 am to 9:30 am.
The OWL (Organization of Women Leaders) event will focus on the “Science of Living Well: Mind, Body & Spirit” and feature interactive displays and tastings from women owned businesses in Santa Monica.
Speakers include Dr. Tessa Warschaw, distinguished author, psychotherapist, and coach; Gauri Brienda-Ramnath, Marketing & Community Relations Specialist for Whole Foods Market; and Jane Mirshak, Founder of Naam Yoga.
Attendees will mix and mingle, sample tastings from around The Market at Santa Monica Place, hear from inspirational speakers, visit exhibitor displays, observe interactive demonstrations, enter to win raffle prizes, and join together in celebrating women in Santa Monica.
In addition, the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce and the Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women will present the ‘OWLie’ Award to Executive Director of YWCA Santa Monica, Julie Meile for making a difference in Santa Monica.
The breakfast will be provided by community partner Whole Foods and The Market purveyors including the newly opened M.A.K.E. by Matthew Kenney, Groundwork Coffee, Chocolate Opulence, The Curious Palate, The Curious Baker, N’Ice Cream, and The Gourmandise School of Sweets & Savories and feature interactive displays from local organizations such as Westside Family Health Center and AAUW-CA.
