BigBelly Solar Compactors/Recycling Units Installed On Main Street:

The BigBelly Solar Trash and Recycling Containers on Main Street.

Santa Monica residents and visitors now have a more convenient way to recycle on Main Street.

Thirteen BigBelly Solar Compactors and Recycling units were installed near Main Street’s shops, restaurants, and coffee houses during the week of March 11.

In addition to each trash compactor being solar powered, the units have a computer chip which includes network management software.

The compactors send a message to the Resource Recovery & Recycling Division when full alerting staff that the units are in need of collection.

The Big Belly Units are cost effective because they reduce overflow and decrease staff collection trips.
