Santa Monica police and fire crews rescued a 29-year-old man who was threatening to commit suicide on the Santa Monica Pier Wednesday night.
SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis said officers responded the pier at 8:55 pm.
Lewis said a family member made the 911 call after the man had told family members he was going to overdose and jump off the pier to commit suicide.
When officers arrived, Lewis said the man had crawled out onto a cement beam at the west end of the pier.
“He never jumped,” Lewis said. “He either went to sleep or lost consciousness, and we were able to remove him from the beam to get him the medical help he required.”
Lewis said the rescue occurred at 9:41 pm.
