SMC’s popular 'Celebrate America' is an early Independence Day festival

Santa Monica College will celebrate Independence Day early this year on Saturday, June 29.

The event will feature fireworks and entertainment as part of the evening themed “Celebrate America.”

The popular outdoor festival is free but donations are welcome.

The celebration – the only one of its kind in Santa Monica – will feature a spectacular fireworks show and entertainment by the rock ‘n blues sounds of The Chris Mulkey Band, a regular at the House of Blues on Sunset.

Held on Corsair Field, the festivities will also feature community service booths, food trucks and food booths operated by the Boy Scouts, SMC Athletics Department, The Bread Factory and many others.

Picnicking is welcome, but alcoholic beverages, glass containers, barbecues, fireworks and chairs with pointed legs are prohibited.

Gates open at 5 pm, with entertainment at 7 pm and the fireworks at 9 pm. The event is free and parking is just $5. Call 310.434.3001.

Presenting sponsors of the event are SMC and the City of Santa Monica. Major sponsors are the SMC Associated Students and Bourget Brothers Building Materials in Santa Monica.
