Learn to Surf LA surf school hosted a group of blind children from the Braille Institute Los Angeles for pro bono surf lessons on Tuesday morning at Venice Beach.

Learn to Surf LA owner Pat Murphy said this was a great opportunity for these children to safely experience catching and riding a wave, saying it was one of the most exhilarating sensations out there.

“We are happy to be continuing our relationship with the Braille Institute in providing this opportunity to these kids,” Murphy said.

The Braille Institute is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to eliminate barriers to a fulfilling life caused by blindness and severe sight loss. The organization provides an environment of hope and encouragement through integrated educational, social, and recreational programs and through our services, classes, and seminars.

Learn to Surf LA is a surf school that has been operating in Santa Monica Bay and the greater Los Angeles area since 2002, providing private surf lessons year round throughout the bay and summer youth surf camp in Manhattan and Venice Beaches.
