The northbound (NB) I-405 off-ramp to Sunset Boulevard will be closed 24 hours a day for demolition and reconstruction, for 120 days, starting 7 pm tonight through to Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013.
“As soon as the off ramp is closed, the contractor is going to do some striping work here on Sunset,” Metro spokesman Dave Sotero told CBS2 News. “Then they are going to begin to prepare to do the demolition work which begins tonight.”
The demolition work will take about a week before the contractor begins building a new off ramp.
“The new ramp is going to be 1000 feet longer and it’s going to carry 60 percent more passengers on the ramp itself,” Sotero said. “It’s going to help improve traffic flows for people getting off the 405 and heading to the UCLA area.”
The new off-ramp will be constructed to modern seismic standards and will feature two right-turn lanes to eastbound Sunset Boulevard.
— Daytime detour for westbound (WB) Sunset is the NB I-405 off-ramp to WB Wilshire, right on Sepulveda Boulevard, right on Sepulveda Way, right onto WB Sunset Bl.
— Nighttime detour for WB Sunset is the NB I-405 off-ramp to WB Wilshire, right onto San Vicente Boulevard, right on S. Barrington Ave to WB Sunset Boulevard.
— Alternate daytime WB Sunset detour is NB I-405 Moraga Dr off-ramp, right on Sepulveda Boulevard, right on Church Lane, right onto WB Sunset Boulevard.
— Daytime and nighttime detour for eastbound (EB) Sunset Boulevard is the NB I-405 off-ramp to EB Wilshire Boulevard, left on Veteran Avenue, right to EB Sunset Boulevard.
Use of changeable message signs will be implemented.
Traffic control officers will be deployed to key intersections to assist with the adjustment of traffic patterns.
