The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed early Saturday morning in a fiery car crash on the 10 Freeway in Santa Monica as 19-year-old Bell resident Giovanny Soto, according to NBC.
Soto was reportedly speeding in a 2001 Ford Mustang westbound on the Santa Monica Freeway before crashing at 1:35 am just before the McClure Tunnel.
NBC reports that investigators believe the Mustang struck the metal guardrail on the north side of the freeway, went up an embankment and struck a concrete wall, spinning the Mustang back onto the freeway, facing the wrong way, blocking both lanes and catching fire.
Two male passengers, aged 16 and 19, were able to escape as a 2008 Audi A4 and Jeep Cherokee crashed into the Mustang, but Soto remained trapped inside and died from the flames.
