Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra Returns For 2013/14 Season Saturday:

The Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra returns this Saturday, Oct. 19, continuing its tradition of free classical music concerts for the residents of Santa Monica and the surrounding communities.

The Symphony, now in its 69th season, said goodbye to its old home, the historic Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in a standing room only farewell concert in May of 2013.

The Symphony’s Tchaikovsky Spectacular was the final event at the Civic, now closed indefinitely.

The Symphony’s new home, Barnum Hall, is an Art Deco masterpiece built in 1937 as the original Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Renamed Barnum Hall in 1944, it is located on the campus of Santa Monica High School.

The 2012-2013 season of the Santa Monica Symphony welcomed Guido Lamell as its new conductor with an exciting and successful series of concerts. Maestro Lamell has brought a fresh new look to the orchestra, attracting a larger and more diverse audience of music enthusiasts.

The Oct. 19 performance will take place at 7:30 pm. See Friday’s edition of The Mirror for more details on the program. Alternatively, visit smsymphony.org or call 310.395.6330.
