Prior to Tuesday’s CIF Southern Section Division 4-A semifinals playoff matchup against Laguna Blanca, Crossroads had been on a roll. The Crossroads volleyball team turned more than their share of heads with their play on the court. To get to the semis, Crossroads defeated Long Beach St. Anthony in three sets in the quarterfinal round.
The Roadrunners defeated St. Anthony, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17 to make it to within one game of playing against neighbor Pacifica Christian, which defeated Cate.
Before the game against St. Anthony, Crossroads went out and did a number on Villanova Prep. The Roadrunners whipped Villanova Prep in three sets as well. Crossroads coach Aaron Wexler had this to say about his team’s efforts against Villanova Prep.
“As we came into the second round of playoffs tonight our goal was to play hard for each point,” Wexler said. “The girls did just that. We played hard every point of the match against a good Villanova Prep squad. The girls were very determined and focused to win this round and move onto quarter finals.”
Mara Greenwald set the tone early in game one with her tough serves and defense and everyone else followed her lead. Zoe Prince was unstoppable at the net throughout the entire match. Olivia Leventhal and Harper Graves continues to inspire the team with their tenacity and focus. Grace Rose was able to run the offense effectively because of the great passing by freshman Kate Whitney-Schubb.
