Waxman Calls On Postal Service For More Parking At Santa Monica Carrier Annex:

Henry Waxman is the U.S. Representative for California's 33rd congressional district

Congressman Henry Waxman (Dem-33rd District) on Wednesday wrote to Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe about the lack of on-site customer parking at the Santa Monica Carrier Annex – the new USPS location after the branch at 5th and Arizona closed in June.

The Postal Service announced plans on Aug. 17, 2012 to move the Santa Monica Post Office from 5th Street to the 7th Street Carrier Annex.

After residents expressed concern about the new location and a lack of on-site parking, Waxman appealed the Postal Services decision.

“When I appealed the Postal Service’s decision to move the Santa Monica Post Office, I raised strong concerns about insufficient parking at the new location,” Waxman said. “In its letter denying my appeal, the Postal Service assured me that the Carrier Annex would offer customers both on-site and street parking. I want to make sure the Postal Service lives up to its promise.”

The letter is available online here.

Additional documents from the USPS regarding the decision to move the Santa Monica Post Office are available online here.
