St. Monica Boys Basketball Team Gain Momentum Before League Play: Mariners go 4-1 in last five games

The St. Monica boys’ basketball team is on a roll these days. Well, at least through the holiday break. The Mariners Big Three in Spencer Gorman, Dennis Ashley, and Kavin Dotson continue show their worth to the team game in and game out.

The Mariners won three out of four games in the San Pedro Shootout to place fifth in the tournament. In the clinching game, St. Monica defeated South Torrance 75-63 behind the outstanding play of Gorman, who once again provided a spark for the Mariners offensively and on the board.

For the game, Gorman scored points and pulled down 15 rebounds, while adding two block shots.

Dennis Ashley also came up with a big effort against West Torrance, dropping in additional 20 points and four assists to go along with Gorman’s output. Ashley was named to the All Tournament team.

Spencer Gorman, Kavin Dotson, and Kaivon Simab also played well throughout the tournament and averaged in double figures. Gorman has stepped up his play recently and has averaged a double-double throughout the past five games.
