Santa Monica College will once again celebrate Independence Day early this year at its “Celebrate America” fireworks and entertainment spectacular this Saturday, June 28.

The free celebration – the only one of its kind in Santa Monica – will feature a dazzling fireworks show by Rialto-based Pyro Spectaculars.

Entertainment includes the popular Cliff Wagner & The Old #7 Band playing a mix of bluegrass, blues, and honkytonk music, with Eddie Jauregui as Master of Ceremonies.

Held on Corsair Field, the festivities will also feature community service booths, food trucks – including new partners Border Grill Truck and Fatburger – and food booths operated by Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, the Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, Santa Monica High School Football Team, and many others.

Picnicking is welcome, but alcoholic beverages, glass containers, barbecues, fireworks (including sparklers), and chairs with pointed legs are prohibited.

Gates open at 5 pm, with entertainment at 7 pm and the fireworks at 9 pm. The event is free (donations are welcome), and parking is just $5. Visit the Celebrate America website www.smc.edu/CelebrateAmerica or call 310.434.3001 for additional details.

Presenting sponsors of the event are SMC and the City of Santa Monica. Major sponsors are the SMC Associated Students and Bourget Brothers Building Materials in Santa Monica. The event’s new Gold sponsors include Beverly Hills Porsche, Pardee Properties, and Tongal.
