Authorities Identify Malibu Surfer Who Died In High Surf On Tuesday:

A surfer who was found floating in the Pacific Ocean in Malibu and pronounced dead at a hospital was identified Thursday by the coroner’s office as 54-year-old Silverio Rafanan Laconsay of Los Angeles.

Laconsay was found “unconscious and non-breathing,” about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, said Kyle Daniels of the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division.

CPR was administered by rescuers, Daniels said.

Laconsay’s death came as large waves generated by then-Hurricane Marie, now a tropical storm, pounded south-facing beaches.
