Bail was set in the amount of $50,000 for a 51-year-old Santa Monica man on Saturday, Aug. 2 after an argument with his wife escalated to domestic violence.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a report of domestic violence in the 900 block of Euclid Street at 9:40 pm on this day.
When the officers arrived they spoke with both the suspect (husband) and victim (wife) who told the officers that they had been married for seven years.
The wife said that on this day she had returned home from a trip with their children and after they had both put the children to sleep (in the literal sense) they had decided to begin an argument about their marriage.
She said that she had told the husband that she intended to take the children and move to another (unspecified) country.
The husband had responded by becoming angry at this news and had then head-butted the wife whilst she was sitting in a chair.
The wife had then become afraid and retreated to another room in order to summon the police, but the husband had chased after her and placed both of his hands round her neck and started to choke her.
The husband choked her for a few moments until the wife broke away and locked herself in a bedroom closet until the police arrived.
The officers observed the signs of the attack on the wife’s neck and face and arrested the husband.
The husband was charged with spousal battery.
