A 22-year-old Compton man was arrested on Saturday, Aug. 16 after Santa Monica police officers found the suspect in possession of a weapon, alcohol, and marijuana in public.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were conducting a periodic safety check at 5:45 pm on this day in a parking lot in the area of the 1900 block of Cloverfield Boulevard.
When they drove into the parking lot they noticed a pair of individuals sitting in a parked vehicle at the location.
There was a third person on a bicycle next to the vehicle, but this man rode away when he saw the officers approaching.
The officers looked inside the vehicle and saw that there were open beer containers on the car floor next to the occupants.
The officers then questioned the occupants and the driver confessed to being on probation and agreed to allow the officers to search the vehicle.
The driver also admitted to being in possession of alcohol and marijuana. The officers then performed a pat-down search of the passenger and discovered that he possessed a sharp, pointed tool in his pants pocket.
The officers arrested this man, aged 22, and a resident of Compton, and he was charged with possession of a concealed weapon and transported to Santa Monica Jail. Bail was set at $500.
