A 46-year-old man was killed and six other people were injured in a two-car crash today on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in the Palms area of West Los Angeles.
The crash occurred at 2:55 a.m. on the westbound Santa Monica Freeway at Manning Avenue, near the National Boulevard offramp, said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.
It was not immediately clear what led to the crash involving a 20-year-old motorist driving a 1996 Toyota Camry and a 22-year-old motorist driving a 2010 Honda, according to a news statement from the CHP.
A passenger in the Toyota, Anselmo Hernandez, 46, of Los Angeles, was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, according to the news statement.
The driver of the Toyota escaped with only minor injuries. His passengers included a 42-year-old man, who suffered moderate injuries, and a 16-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl, who both suffered minor injuries, according to the CHP.
The driver of the Honda and his passenger, a 23-year-old woman, both suffered minor injuries.
The two right lanes of the westbound Santa Monica Freeway were shut down during the investigation and cleanup, Polizzi said.
