Santa Monica police are investigating a man who stole a cell phone from his ex-girlfriend on Friday, July 11.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the 700 block of Pico Boulevard at 6:40 pm on this day in order to investigate a report of a cellphone theft that had occurred.
Upon arrival the officers spoke with the female victim who told them she had been sitting in her automobile waiting for the traffic lights to turn green when her former boyfriend approached the vehicle and insisted that she allow him to enter the car.
The purpose of his request apparently stemmed from his desire to discuss their breakup.
The victim told the officers that she had allowed this man to enter her vehicle and that they had then driven to the area of Seventh Street and Kensington Road whereupon she had parked the car.
The discussion about the breakup then started, in almost predictable fashion, became heated as they both presented contrary opinions regarding their feelings about the breakup.
The victim had then pulled her cellphone from her purse in order to record the proceedings and the suspect had responded by grabbing the cellphone and jumping out of the vehicle and running away in a northeasterly direction.
The victim continued to tell the officers that this man had then returned the phone to her at her residence.
However, she was still desirous to report the incident, as she feared that the suspect might further escalate the conflict.
The officers did not make an arrest at that time but the incident is still under investigation.
