A furniture and lifestyle goods chain normally found in shopping centers has opened a store in the Los Angeles Design District that is decided different, the firm announced today.
Restoration Hardware’s new “RH West Hollywood, The Gallery” features a rooftop garden with 100-year-old, full-sized olive trees, granite gravel walkways and a “stunning view of the Hollywood Hills,” the firm announced in a press release.
A 10-foot high statue of an angel — a reproduction of the “Winged Victory of Samothrace” statue at the Louvre — was purchased at the flea market in Paris for this project, the company said.
Under the statue, architect James Gillam has composed a 40,000-square-foot gallery fronted by 12-foot glass and steel French doors that open onto a streetscape lined with boxwood topiaries and London planetrees, the firm announced.
“Looking overhead, guests will admire lush garden terraces on level two and the Rooftop Park, with nearly 100-year-old heritage olive trees,” the company’s press release said.
Company chairman Gary Friedman said the unusual building reflects a vision “to create an environment that blurs the lines between residential and retail, interiors and exteriors, offline and online, and celebrates the creative spirit of West Hollywood and the Los Angeles Design District.”
The new RH West Hollywood Gallery is open to the public at 8564 Melrose Blvd.
